Exercise Description:
The dumbbell tricep extension is an isolation exercise that targets the triceps, the muscles on the back of the upper arm. It is a great exercise for building overall triceps strength and size.
To do a dumbbell tricep extension, sit on a bench with your feet flat on the floor and your back straight. Hold a dumbbell in each hand, with your palms facing down and your elbows bent at a 90-degree angle. Keeping your elbows close to your sides, extend your arms up overhead until they are almost straight. Pause briefly, then lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position.
Here are a couple of cues to use when performing a dumbbell tricep extension:
- Keep your elbows close to your sides. This will help you target the triceps more effectively.
- Don't lock out your elbows at the top of the movement. This can put stress on your elbow joints.
- Lower the dumbbells slowly and under control. This will help you feel the muscle contraction.
Here are some of the benefits of the dumbbell tricep extension:
- Strengthens the triceps
- Improves posture
- Reduces the risk of elbow injuries
- Helps heal injuries to the triceps
