Description
The anconeus muscle is a muscle located in the forearm. It is a small, triangular-shaped muscle located on the lateral (outer) aspect of the elbow. The anconeus muscle is responsible for extending the elbow joint, which means it helps to straighten the arm. This movement is important for activities such as throwing a ball or pushing something away from the body.
The anconeus muscle originates from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus bone, and inserts onto the posterior aspect of the ulna bone. It is located just below the triceps brachii muscle, which is the larger muscle responsible for extending the elbow joint.
One example of how the anconeus muscle is used is when you throw a ball. To do this, you need to extend your elbow joint, which is facilitated by the anconeus muscle working together with the triceps brachii muscle. This movement allows you to generate the force needed to throw the ball with speed and accuracy.
