Description
- The tibialis anterior muscle is a long, thin muscle located in the front of the lower leg. It originates from the upper two-thirds of the lateral surface of the tibia, and inserts on the base of the first metatarsal bone and the medial cuneiform bone of the foot. The primary function of the tibialis anterior is to assist in the plantarflexion and inversion of the ankle joint, as well as the dorsiflexion of the foot. It also helps to stabilize the foot and ankle during walking and running.
In terms of sports, the tibialis anterior muscle is commonly used in activities that involve running, jumping, and cutting.
It is not necessary to use the tibialis anterior muscle daily, as it will naturally be engaged during activities that involve movement of the foot and ankle. However, incorporating specific exercises that target the tibialis anterior can help to improve muscle strength and function.
