Description
The levator scapulae is a muscle located in the neck and upper back. It originates at the transverse processes of the upper four cervical vertebrae, and inserts at the medial border of the scapula (shoulder blade). The levator scapulae is responsible for elevating the scapula and rotating it upward, as well as tilting the head to the side.
The levator scapulae is a small muscle that is part of a larger group of muscles known as the intrinsic muscles of the neck. These muscles are responsible for maintaining posture and supporting the head and neck.
