Description
The obturator internus is a flat, triangular muscle located in the pelvis. It originates on the inner surface of the obturator membrane and the margin of the obturator foramen, and inserts on the posterior surface of the greater trochanter of the femur.
The main function of the obturator internus is to externally rotate the thigh at the hip joint. It works together with the other muscles of the hip to control and coordinate movement of the leg.
