Description
It is a small muscle located on the lateral side of the hand, near the base of the little finger. It originates from the fifth metacarpal bone and inserts onto the lateral side of the proximal phalanx of the little finger.

The Abductor Digiti Minimi muscle works together with the other muscles of the hand to allow for fine motor control and precise movements of the little finger. In daily use, it plays a role in gripping and manipulating objects, as well as maintaining the stability of the hand when it is holding something.

For example, when gripping a pen or pencil to write, the Abductor Digiti Minimi muscle helps to stabilize the little finger and prevent it from moving out of position. This allows for more precise control of the writing implement and can improve the legibility of written text.

Some examples include:
  • Holding a basketball
  • Holding a large bowl
  • Holding a large tire
