Description
The obturator externus is a flat, triangular muscle located in the pelvis. It originates on the outer surface of the obturator membrane and the margin of the obturator foramen, and inserts on the posterior surface of the greater trochanter of the femur.
The main function of the obturator externus is to externally rotate the thigh at the hip joint. It works together with the other muscles of the hip to control and coordinate movement of the leg.
