Description
The obliquus capitis superior (OCS) is a small, triangular muscle located in the neck. It originates on the transverse process of the atlas (the first cervical vertebra) and inserts on the occipital bone at the base of the skull.

The main function of the OCS is to assist in lateral flexion and rotation of the head and neck. It works together with the other muscles in the neck to control and coordinate movement of the head and neck.
