Description
The extensor pollicis brevis muscle is a small, flat muscle located in the posterior compartment of the hand. It is situated between the two heads of the extensor pollicis longus muscle and extends from the posterior aspect of the ulna and the interosseous membrane to the extensor expansion on the dorsal aspect of the thumb.

The main function of the extensor pollicis brevis muscle is to extend the thumb and assist in the opposition of the thumb. It also helps to maintain the position of the hand in space and provides stability to the thumb joint.

The extensor pollicis brevis muscle is commonly used in activities that require gripping and fine motor control, such as holding a pencil or using a computer mouse. It is also used in activities that require extending the thumb and opposition of the thumb, such as thumb wrestling or grasping objects.
