Description
The rotatores muscles are a group of small, elongated muscles located in the back. They are located between the transverse processes of the vertebrae, and attach to the adjacent spinous process. There are a total of eight rotatores muscles, with four on each side of the vertebral column.

The main function of the rotatores muscles is to laterally rotate (rotate outwardly) the vertebrae at the intervertebral joints. This movement is essential for activities such as twisting and turning the trunk, and helps to provide stability and support for the spine. The rotatores muscles also help to extend the vertebrae, and assist in flexion of the vertebral column.

In sports, the rotatores muscles are used many sport, almost all sports. Therefore the sports we have listed are just some of the top ones we feel should have "extra" training targeting this muscle. These are sports that laterally rotate the spine as part of proper form to achieve maximal out put of energy or weight transfer.

The rotatores muscles are used in many activities that involve lateral rotation of the vertebral column, such as twisting and turning the trunk. They are also used in activities that require extension and flexion of the vertebral column, such as bending over to pick something up or stretching to reach for something on a high shelf.
