Description
The obliquus capitis inferior (OCI) is a small, triangular muscle located in the neck. It originates on the spinous process of the axis (the second cervical vertebra) and inserts on the lateral part of the transverse process of the atlas (the first cervical vertebra).
The main function of the OCI is to assist in lateral flexion and rotation of the head and neck. It works together with the other muscles in the neck to control and coordinate movement of the head and neck.
