Description
The lumbricals are a group of four muscles in the hand that originate on the tendons of the flexor muscles in the palm and insert on the extensor tendons of the fingers. The lumbricals are located in the hand, specifically in the palm.
The function of the lumbricals is to flex the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints and extend the interphalangeal (IP) joints of the fingers. This allows the fingers to bend at the knuckles (MCP joints) while remaining straight at the joints between the phalanges (IP joints).
